Sheet Metal Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARY 
The sheet metal superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all the activities of a construction site according to project plans. Their duties include managing employees, coordinating subcontractors, performing quality control and safety checks, and providing on-site direction when preparing construction sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Manage a team of sheet metal workers, including overseeing work schedules, project progress and resource allocation.
  • Direct sheet metal foreman and sheet metal workers on the scope and specifications of projects.
  • Coordinate materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers, checking material shipments for accuracy.
  • Conduct safety inspections on projects and service work.
  • Manage fleet maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Attend job walks and conduct job surveys for both projects ongoing and jobs bidding. 
  • Responsible for overseeing quality control.
  • Create cost estimates for labor, supplies, materials, and other project costs.
  • Collaborate with clients and other project management to determine budget and timeline.
  • Create schedules for workers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain a daily log for the job site’s operations, reporting to management as necessary.
  • Make changes in the operation as necessary to best meet construction deadlines.
  • Implement management techniques that are cost-effective and efficient.
  • Create and implement best safety practices for sheet metal fabrication and installation for sheet metal workers. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Excellent communication abilities, including verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal materials budgeting best practices.
  • Good planning skills, including design execution, resource allocation and contingencies.
  • Understanding of sheet metal equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues.
  • In-depth understanding of local, state, and federal roofing construction regulations.
  • Great problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, prioritization, and multitasking.
  • Fluency in English is necessary, bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent experience or training may be substituted
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication and installation
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Safety and heavy machinery operations training and certification preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines, equipment, and construction procedures
  • An apprenticeship or license in roofing or relevant field is a plus

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly and indirectly supervises assigned staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; supervising and troubleshooting routine issues that occur on the job site; ensuring safety rules are followed at all times; developing and coaching employees; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of the job. Requires full range of body movement, such as turning, stooping, kneeling and climbing. Requires   full range of hand movements in the performance of the assigned duties, including the utilization of hand and power tools common to maintenance and repair activities. Must be able to regularly lift 50 pounds and up to 80 pounds. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods and ability to work at heights for long hours. This position requires to ability to use a computer for moderate periods of time. 

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT USED
Motorized vehicles and equipment which may include chemicals, mechanical hand tools, electrical power tools, and materials handling equipment. Motor vehicles including pick-up trucks, dump trucks, forklift; motorized roof top equipment; and kettle. Ability to operate or utilize all general construction equipment including air compressors, nails guns, hammers or hatchets, scaffolding, hand tools, wheelbarrows etc. Ability to operate all general office equipment including computer, printer, copier, and phones. Ability to operate and drive vehicle to run errands.

WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Frequent working around moving mobile equipment. Occasional exposure to materials and chemicals that could cause personal injury if improperly handled.
